Pam has browbeaten me into a mass update of the kitten pages. We've almost succeeded in getting pictures of all the kittens up on the website! Which is good, since they are flying out of the house now. :(

We put an ad in the Oregonian this weekend to place kittens and older cats - not the best choice of weekends, perhaps. Pam was up in Issaquah at a show with Junior, I was busy at the shop. (Junior, btw, brought home a final!)

The kittens have broken out of prison!

Part of our joy is having the kittens and mothers spend the nights with us. They are born in the Master bedroom, and stay there as long as possible. Well, we found it was no longer possible to leave our room in the morning without a few escapees. At first it was just one or two, which we could apprehend and ship off to jail again. They must have passed the word that escape was possible if they presented a united front, as the onslaught of kittens was like a tidal surge – no human could withstand the weight of the wave.

So, the little guys are mixing with the big ones, socializing and learning how to show submissiveness (a valuable skill!)

The Friends and Family pages are BACK UP!!!

9/27/05

Well, for those of you who have been around to recognize it, say hello to the old website. The other site was very nice looking - but impossible for me to tell anyone else how to maintain it. So we are rolling back to the older, but simpler, page. :)

In cat news - the kittens are rushing the bedroom door en masse. They will be loose in the household soon - so it's time to find them homes!!

Junior has obtained all the necessary finals for his Quad Grand Championship - he is still short points, however, and so we'll be finishing that up and then starting after that elusive 'Best Cat' for his Supreme.

And finally, yes with the new store being opened, I am behind on my cat mail. I *strongly* encourage anyone trying to contact us to do it via the kittens@coonpanion.com address, since Pam sees that mail as well as I do.

8/21/05 Well, here's quite the gap!
For those of you who aren't aware of it, I've been working to start my own business - an occupation which has kept me quite, well, occupied the past few months. However, Coonpanion is still up and running - here are some of the highlights of the past 6 months.
  • Mackie ended up bringing home a regional award - 13th best cat in the Mid-Pacific!
  • We've had three litters - Lovey's, Dark Angel's and Nightpool's
  • Pam has been showing Jr (CH Coonpanion Indiana Jones) with mixed success - he almost granded at his first adult show, and panicked at his second. His third will be the TNCC show next weekend, we'll see how he does
  • 3/20/05 I've been updating the site (and yes, I backdated some what's new entries :). Our kitten pages are now back up-to-date (if not the pictures!).

Pam will be going up to the Victoria show with Mackie in a couple of weeks - so if you live on or around Vancouver Island, this will be your chance to see him in person!

I understand that Ki, Thor and Rosie will also be making the trip - Rosie will be old enough to compete this time!

Pam will also be bringing out Junior (Coonpanion Indiana Jones) for his first show. I know from personal experience that he's a howler - so the trip should be a memorable one for Pam! :D
3/13/05 Pam, along with our good friends Connie, Sandy and Judy, went up to Vancouver for the three day Cat Fanciers of British Columbia show this weekend. Maine Coons accompanying them were Mackie (SGC Holdermaines Mac Tabulous), Ki (QGCA Coonpanion D Dougal McKeller McKie) and Thor (Coonpanion Viking Prince Thor) with Rosie (Coonpanion RamblinRose of Cozycoon) along for the ride. The highlights of this show (from a Coonpanion point of view) were:
    • Friday Night: Thor took 2nd place in the Spectator's Choice contest (where the spectators coming to the show pick the cat/kittens they like best
    • Saturday: Coonpanion D Dougal McKeller McKie became the first Coonpanion-bred cat to achieve the title of Supreme Grand Champion Alter!
Ki also was picked as a Spectator's Choice winner! :)
    • Sunday: Mackie was selected as a Spectator's Choice winner!
Our boys and girls brought back 8 finals from one of the biggest shows in the Pacific Northwest (with Ki bringing back a whopping six, all by himself) including a Second Best kitten for Thor and, of course, that elusive BEST ALTER for Ki.
We are very, very proud of our boy and congratulate Sandy and Don, his owners, for their success.
3/10/05 Sid was officially removed from our breeding program this
morning, and is now recovering in our bedroom. He's a great cat and we look
forward to having him back upstairs.
3/8/05 We are pleased to announce the SGC Holdermaine's Mac Tabulous has completed his heart and hips screens. His hips were checked this past Saturday, and while we are still waiting for the official OFA (preliminary) report, our Vet was quite confident they would pass.
His HCM screening was conducted by Dr. Gary Wood, DVM, of Cardiology Northwest who found him normal in all respects. While I don't pretend to understand them, here are the numbers from his report:
    IVSd 0.460 cm
    LVIDd 1.92
    LVFWd 0.425
    IVSs 0.717
    LVIDs 1.30
    LVFWs 0.731
    SF 32.4%
    Ao 1.30
    LA 1.27
    LA/Ao 0.978
    2/14/05 Happy Valentine's Day!

Pam and I spent the weekend up in Seattle attending the 'My Furry Valentine' show. We brought Mackie up for competition, and were quite pleased with the results. Beyond the mechanics of the show, however, we just had a plain good 'ol time. Lots of friends up there, and with neither Pam or myself actually involved with putting on the show, or working at the show, it was a chance to talk to people we haven't seen for a while, meet new friends, and just plain enjoy ourselves. Thanks Evergreen - Great show!!
2/10/05 We have recieved Mackie's confirmation of title from TICA. It's official - he's a Supreme!
2/9/05 I've posted a new picture of Rogue.

Also, in past news (yes, I've lapsed again) - we attended TNCC's 'No Roses Here' show, held the last weekend of January. Mackie did outstanding, bringing home 8 finals! We will be showing him through the end of this show year, working to get him his regional titles!

We will have Mackie up at the 'My Furry Valentine' show this next weekend - hope to see some of you there!
1/18/05 What's new? Well, first off would have to be the web site. It's not complete as yet, but it's progressed to the point where I am ready to publish it. If you see any problems or typos, feel free to drop me a note douglas@coonpanion.com and I'll see about fixing it. Feedback is always welcome, even criticism (although that is preferred in moderation :)

In other news, Pam took Mackie up to the Commencement Club show in Chehalis this past weekend. Mackie did outstanding!! He brought home eight (8) finals, including a BEST CAT. YEPPER. Mackie (once we get the paperwork done) has qualified for his SUPREME!!! Woot!!
    1/6/05

Happy New Year! :) Believe it or not, this website is starting it's 7th year! What a strange, interesting and unexpected journey this has been - we look forward to the events of the coming year.

We took pictures tonight and posted new pictures of Lois, Anne, Robert, Mercedes, Pippen, Rogue, Marie, Denny, and Elmer. I think we are all caught up! :)
