| 12/18/04 | A sad day here. One of the kittens in Topaz's litter was not thriving - we worked with him all night and into the morning and then brought him to our vet today. Unfortunately, after examining him, her recommendation was to have him put down. We said a sad farewell to our black boy. Now for the soap opera: Juliet, who was frustrated with only one baby to care for, has adopted Topaz's entire litter. This is fortunate because Topaz, who never quite figured out what those small things were all about, has moved in with Max's *and* Nightpool's litters (both), and Annie's babies drop by the milk bar when there is an opening. Nightpool is just plain relieved that she has help, and Max is bemused, but okay with this. Pam and I, on the other hand, feel like we should have music playing - so we can stop it at random intervals, in this game of musical ... moms. |
| 12/17/04 | WOO HOO!!! KITTENS!!! Coonpanion Topaz delivered 5 healthy kittens (2 brown classics, 3 solid black)! |
| 12/16/04 | Kitten Pictures! I've posted new pictures of Jo, Amy, Shari and Rose. I also put up a new picture of Max (Antarcin Dark Angel) on her litter page. |
| 12/11/04 | WOO HOO!!! KITTENS!!! Well, Kitten anyway. :) Coonpanion Juliet delivered a single healthy kitten into our hands this morning (after faking us out and keeping us up all night for her to actually go into labor). It's a blue torbie (which also means it's a she). Sid, the sire, is blissfully oblivious to the whole situation. |
| 12/7/04 | Pam and I attended the Toe, Tufts and Tails show this past weekend, taking Holdermaine's Mac Tabulous along. He gave us a respectable show, we brought home four more ribbons with his name on them, including one 2nd Best Longhair Cat! Of course, he *is* a Quad Grand now, so what we are chasing is that elusive Best Cat. But, as Pam said, now we still have a reason to be going to more shows! (Of course, once we get his Supreme, we'll still be working on his regionals!! :) |
| 11/26/04 | I've posted pictures of Meg and Jo from the Dark Angel/Obsidian litter. I've also posted the litter page for the Nightpool/Mac Tabulous litter. |
| 11/25/04 | WOO HOO!!! KITTENS!!! Nightpool delivered six healthy kittens this morning. Looks to be three blues and three browns! |
| 11/24/04 | Hard Drives Fail. It really happens - even to computer professionals. On the 15th of this month, the hard drive in our home computer failed. And the disk that I had mentally designated for using to back it up was ... still sitting there. *I* knew that it should be backing up the primary disk, and I probably would have gotten around to actually configuring it ... sometime soon. The long and the short of it is that until I can recover the data (ok, *IF* I can recover the data) we have lost you. If you are still interested in a Coonpanion kitten - please send us an updated email to kittens@coonpanion.com. We have 2 litters on the ground, and two more due in the next 4 weeks. |
| 11/22/04 | I've posted pictures of Loki and Freya - they are five week old kittens from the Annie/Sid litter. |
| 11/21/04 | I've posted pictures of Odin and Thor - they are five week old red classic tabbies from the Annie/Sid litter. |
| 11/15/04 | WOO HOO!!! KITTENS!!! Max (Dark Angel) delivered 4 kittens today - 3 brown classics (which we expected) and 1 BLUE!!! (ummm... which we didn't expect. :) |
| 10/26/04 | LOL!! Some of you are watching this site *way* too closely. Yes, the last two entries were added today - I'm catching up with my website work and hadn't posted them as yet. The dates are correct (when it happened), but they were definitely added after-the-fact. (I am soooooo busted). - douglas |
| 10/18/04 | WOO HOO!!! KITTENS!!! We appear to have 3 red boys (maybe a red silver or two in there) and a brown tabby girl. All are doing well. Pam had Mac down at the Sacremento show. He brought home two more finals and enough points to qualify as a Quadruple Grand Champion! |
| 10/11/04 | Pam brought Mac up to the Evergreen Cat Fanciers show (while I worked). He did very well! |
| 9/13/04 | Ouch. A bit of a long break in the news. We're very, very pleased to introduce our new boy, Holdermaine's Mac Tabulous! He is a Blue Mackerel Tabby that Pam fell in love with at first sight - I'll get some pictures of him up just as soon as I get some. We have actually been talking about Mac with Farrell and Marty Holderman of Holdermaines for a couple of months now, and were originally scheduled to pick him up in Sacramento in October. But the Salt Lake City Club needed entries, and it seemed like a great opportunity for me to meet him (I actually had never laid eyes on Mac until the day before the show!). Farrell and Marty were absolute champs, made arrangements to have him hand carried to Salt Lake by Susan Ostergard where I met up with him and agented him for the show. I then flew back to Portland with him, and we've started the process of introducing him into the cattery. He's a sweet boy with a great disposition. Although he had a lot of changes being thrown his way, he was calm and friendly to everyone who had the opportunity to handle him. Between his great looks and fantastic personality, I couldn't be more pleased. Anyway, there has been a bunch of stuff happening here, so let me give it to you in the short form. Here is the summary: 8/21 - 8/22 Paws and Smell the Roses IX, Portland Oregon. This was our show and as both the club President and the entry clerk, I (douglas) was pretty busy. Hah! From the beginning of August until the show was broken down and everyone was home, I pretty much lived and breathed this show. :) Pam ran seven of our cats and kittens for this show, and all in all we were pretty successful! (So was the show :) 9/4 - 9/5 TICA Annual, Edmonton AB Canada. Pam attended this show with Dawg. It's the biggest show on the TICA calendar, with the annual awards ceremony as well. We've worked pretty hard to put La Perms on TICA's radar screen, and it's been well worth it. 9/11 - 9/12 Salt City Cat Club, Salt Lake City UT. A show that was asking for support and, as the home club for Arnold Farly, the ICAT judge who came to Portland, I felt we needed to give it to him. So I made arrangements for Marty and Farrell Holderman to send Mac out with Susan Ostergard (Thanks Susan) and, at the last minute, Pam made arrangements for Dawg to be driven out with Tasha Berry and Valerie Horton (Thanks!). As a result, I flew to Salt Lake with no cats, and came back with one. :) This was a *very* successful show for us. Dawg picked up 6 finals, including another Best Alter. Mac picked up 7 finals, including one 2nd Best Cat, becoming a 1-show Grand Champion (he doesn't have the points for Double Grand, although he does have the finals)! I'm very excited to be working with our new boy! |
| 7/31/04 | Pam and I attended the North West Regional show in Vancouver. I took some pictures at the show, they are posted here. |
| 7/12/04 | Pam took Dawg and Boogie Woogie to the Mid Pacific Regional show in Sacramento this past weekend. Dawg brought home a final (but it's his swan song, he was mostly down there to be shown off as TICA's first La Perm to Supreme). |
| 5/10/04 | Posted a picture of the combined Max/Nightpool litter - all 10 remaining kittens! If you've ever tried to take a picture of just one kitten ... you can guess how much fun we had getting all ten in the shot! :) |
| 4/26/04 | Pam and I attended the 3rd Annual 'Cats in the City' show up in Vancouver, B.C. this weekend. Wow - a *huge* Bengal Congress with lots and lots of Bengals in attendance. Dawg did ok, considering that his coat is fading. (Note to all of you showing, or going to show, Black Cats - keep them out of the sun!) He brought home 3 finals for about 400 more points towards his regional status. Assuming that no other cats in the MP gathered in any points since the last update, that would be enough for him to take 12th in the region. However, since I'm pretty sure that I saw the #12 cat at the same show I was at ... we'll just have to settle for 13th (and hope that #14 didn't do *really* well this weekend too!). We will now be getting down to the serious business of placing the kittens in our last two remaining litters. For all of you who have been expecting to hear from us - if you haven't, this would be a good time to get a hold of us. :) |
| 4/18/04 | We spent the weekend down in Roseburg attending the Sassycat show. I clerked all weekend, but Pam showed the Dawg (who brought home four more finals)! Sandy and Connie were there as well, and Kie picked up enough finals to capture a Quad Grand Championship ... but only has enough points to Triple! :) Coongrats to Sandy on the success of her boy! We are going to try to get a hold of our prospective kitten buyers this week - but the last show of the show year is scheduled for next weekend, so either Pam or I may be off to Canada to keep Dawg competative for a Regional Award (he currently ranks 13th in the Region). |
| 4/15/04 | Obsidian screened clear of HCM today by Dr. Wood of Cardiology NW. |
| 3/23/04 | Back from a long weekend up in Vancouver attending the Cat Fancier's of British Columbia's 3 day show. It was a very pleasant show - a real campaigner show with some of the best cats in the country in attendance. And then, of course, there was us. :) We only showed Dawg this time - he generated a lot of comments from the spectators, but the judges were armored against his eyes ... no finals. But! ... CH Coonpanion D Dougal McKeller McKie garnered another final (in a very, very competitive show)! And we were able to see Antarcin Rylee pick up a best Alter! (Rylee, by the way, is one of three kittens from TGC, RW Coonpanion Laramee of Antarcin's only litter.) |
| 3/14/04 | I've posted pictures of the remainder of Nightpool's litter! |
| 3/8/04 | Yuck! Flu season is upon us. :( I've posted new pictures of Coonpanion Never a Dull Moment (Starbuck) and Tigh. AND ... Woo Hoo! I actually have some kitten pictures up! I've posted pictures of Beryl, Zirc and Molly! I'll be trying to get more up as I have them. |
| 2/22/04 | We said a very teary goodbye to Antarcin Lousenza of Coonpanion today - she's off to be the matriarch of her very own household now. We wish her the very best, and will miss her a lot. It's for the best - she was never very happy in a multi-cat environment. And she'll get what she really loves, the undivided attention of her own human! :) |
| 2/20/04 (from Pam's Corner) |
Stark- so good with the little guys! Stark amazes us with his sweetness and gentleness with the younger kitten generation. He is still one heck of a sharp guy, and likes to rough house enough to make him a cat looking for adults to live with, but he is also a sweetheart. Tigh - At 4 month old, Tigh has an amazingly long tail, and it looks a bit too long (if there is such a thing) as he is not developing coat to go with it yet. Apollo - still our "mini-coon, this boy has coat to spare! He has a great ruff, and is the biggest piggy around. He jumps onto the food plate before it hits the ground. Nightpool is an awful mom. No two ways about it. She hardly stand still long enough for the kittens to hook on for a drink before she is off and away. We took over the kitten chores, from nursing them to "potty" duties. They are just now starting to eat solid food and use the catbox. This has been a rough time for us, but luckily, with four of us to pitch in, we've given them the boost they needed, and all are healthy and happy. In fact, we've bonded more with these guys at a young age than most litters, as kitten and human stare into each other eye as they nurse. I know quite a bit about their personalities, even at 3 weeks old:

| 2/16/04 | We spent this past weekend up in Everett, enjoying the company of our friends at the Evergreen Cat Fancier's 'My Furry Valentine' show. We brought Starbuck (who officially became Coonpanion Never A Dull Moment) and Dawg and were pleased with the comments we got on both. We also are very happy to announce that two Coonpanion cats Championed at the Everett show - Coonpanion My Romeo of Cozycoons gathered up the remaining points he needed to qualify for his championship, and Coonpanion D Dougal McKeller McKie not only got the final he needed for Champion, but gathered up two more, bringing him half way to a Grand! We are very pleased with, and proud of, these two boys and would like to congratulate their owners on their success! :) |
| 2/11/04 | Louie was spayed today, it's been a hard decision and we changed our minds several times. However, in the end, we decided that it would be best for her. She has moved into our daughter Mandy's room (much to our surprise, as Mandy has kep her room a 'cat-free' zone for the better part of a year) for the duration of her recovery and is soaking up all the attention and love she can! :) |
| 2/10/04 | OK, I wimped out. I was scheduled to attend the Arcadia show this past weekend, but I came down with a cold and just couldn't face the 1500 mile round-trip drive. I understand it was a pretty nice show, but I don't regret spending the weekend at home. Having said that - Pam and I have a number of shows on our schedule for this final part of the show year (TICA's shows run May - April). We want to ensure that Dawg hits Regional Winner (RW) status, and may be in a position to push for International Winner (IW)! I updated the litter pages - of our top three litters (Sabrina's, Annie's and Juliet's), only Tigh and Apollo are left - Leia and Sakura will be leaving with their new family tomorrow evening. I hope to get pictures of the other two litters (Nightpool's and Max's), but we've been a tad bit busy. Nightpool has been a bit under the weather lately and has only intermittant interest in her kittens. We are currently hand raising them (with all that entails), and making sure that they continue to thrive. Fortunately, they are nearly to the point where they would start eating on their own anyway, so we hope to be over this hump in short order! We are just starting to work up the list of prospective buyers for these two litters - so if you haven't heard from us lately, drop us a line! |
| 1/27/04 | WOO HOO!!! KITTENS!!! Max delivered six healthy kittens this evening. We're sure there is at least one silver and three with White (Brown and Silver were the only expected colors and each kitten had a 50% chance of being with white). |
| 1/25/04 | We have recieved the official paperwork from TICA regarding Dawg - Supreme Grand Alter Jemcats Jest Dawg, I should say! |
| 1/13/04 | WOO HOO!!! KITTENS!!! Nightpool delivered six healthy kittens this morning. Looks to be at least one blue amongst them, so we should have some color in that litter, otherwise is should all be brown tabby (or with a great deal of luck, since her mother does carry solid) maybe some solids. |
| 1/12/04 | We are pleased and proud to report that Jemcats Jest Dawg, our Black w/White La Perm alter, earned his Best Alter at the Commencement Cat Club show in Chehalis Washington. This makes him a Supreme Grand Champion (Alter) and, we believe he is the first La Perm to do so. |
| 1/5/04 | I've turned off the 'kitten's available' graphic on the website - with the exception of the kittens we are evaluating for show, all the new kittens have been spoken for. For that matter, we have people waiting for the kittens we are still evaluating! We are still looking for a home for Stark - not very hard, admittedly, but we are looking! Pam is talking with someone about a possible home for Louie, so Stark is the last of our older cats still available. We will be purging our waiting list of everyone who did not respond to the last round of kitten responses - so if you were waiting to write us back, do it quick! |
| 1/3/04 | Happy New Year! The holidays have found us to be a bit on the busy side, so let me catch up with the recent news. We have bid a fond farewell to Coonpanion Samantha Carter. She went off to her new home just before Christmas. It was a hard decision - she is very sweet, but it was for the best. We are still looking for the perfect homes for Coonpanion Tony Stark and AnTarCin Lousenza of Coonpanion. If you are interested in older cats, please contact us. We have started placing the kittens from Sabrina's, Annie's and Juliet's litters. We are reserving Starbuck (silver tabby boy from Sabrina's litter), Sikoru (Blue solid girl from Juliet's litter) and Sasha (Brown Torbie from Juliet's litter) for show evaluation. And finally, Max is back in the house after going on an extended honeymoon to Val Horton's house. She and Nicky had a jolly time and we are looking forward to kittens from that breeding! Nightpool is also pregnant, Sid is the Sire of that litter. I'll be updating our breeding page shortly. |
